Welcome!

From October 18-20 a Youth BarCamp will take place in Vienna, gathering 70 young people from six different European countries. The Youth BarCamp tackles youth policy in Austria focusing on the implementation of the EU Youth Strategy, Guidelines for successful e-Participation of young people (last version https://db.tt/dJ9mCjBT ) as well as any topic within the thematic framework of eDemocracy and Participation young people themselves wish to discuss.

Main organiser of the Youth BarCamp is WienXtra, a youth work agency in Vienna, in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth and the project youthpart. The Youth BarCamp is realized together with different partners from six countries: Koordinaatti (Finland), British Youth Council (United Kingdom), INJUVE (Spain), AEGEE-Europe (Belgium), CECE (Spain) and Liquid Democracy e.V. (Germany).

In particular, Youthpart and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth are two of the mentioned partners and are looking forward to a successful cooperation with wienXtra. At the same time youthpart and the Austrian Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth glad for the opportunity to discuss the topic of e-participation critically with young people from different European countries.

The European Youth BarCamp is funded by the EU-Program “Youth in Action”, the German Federal Ministry for Family, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth as well as the Austrian Federal Ministry of Economy, Family and Youth.

Location & Date

The European Youth BarCamp takes place in Vienna, Austria.
From 18-20 October 70 young people from six European countries (AT, DE, FI, BE, ES, UK), each offering places for ten young people, except Austria who will offer 20 places, will meet at the premises of the wienXtra-ifp (see address right hand bar/map).
Double rooms from 18-20 October have already been reserved at Hotel Bellevue Wien (Althanstrasse 5, Wien).

Who can take part?

The European Youth BarCamp provides a discussion space for young people age 16-24 from the following countries: Austria, Finnland, Belgium, Spain, Germany, United Kingdom. In particular, young people should apply who are in touch with relevant questions related to eDemocracy, digital participation, youth policy and the structured dialogue, yet, also young people who have not been yet in touch with those questions and can provide a different perspective on questions at stake.

How to take part?

There are two different procedures to apply for taking part in this European Youth BarCamp, depending of your country of origin.

For interested young people from Germany and Austria, please subscribe at the BarCamp till September 21st. After that deadline the selection takes place and selected young people will receive a confirmation email. Just subscribing at the BarCamp does not mean you are selected as participant. Subscription only means an expression of interest from your side to take part in this event.
For interested people from the UK, Belgium, Finnland, Spain please get in touch with the respective partner organisations from these countries. You find their contacts at the contact page.

Despite these different selection procedures, it is important to note that only the final confirmation from the partner organisation you applied through means you are accepted at the Youth BarCamp. Do not (!) book any tickets until you receive your personal confirmation and information about the booking and reimbursement procedure. Accepted young people are asked to be prepared to cover their travel expenses on their own in advance and receive the reimbursement of these expenses after the Youth BarCamp upon presentation of all requested receipts from the main organizer WienXtra. We ask for your understanding that only confirmed young people are allowed to attend the YouthBarCamp in person. Additional places are not possible, unfortunately, yet a waiting list is in place. When you are selected and you are asked to register here, you allow us to include your name into the printed list of participants that is part of the welcome package at the Youth BarCamp.

The BarCamp Format

A BarCamp is an international user-generated unconference. They are open, participatory workshop-events, the content of which is provided by participants. Originally it primarily focused around technology and the web, yet he format has also been used for a variety of other topics, including public transit, health care, education, and political organizing. Topics

The Youth BarCamp provides a thematic framework to issues directly related to young people in Europe: such as youth participation, Europe, European citizenship, active citizenship, eDemocracy, ICT for decision-making processes, Open Data, Open Government. Through its interactive and innovative character, it offers an ideal space for young people to contribute to the topics of the framework as well as bring own issues within this framework to the table.
